About Vietnam
Vietnam is a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia on the easternmost part of the Indochinese peninsula. Its shape resembles an S with a long coastline along the South China Sea. It shares borders with China in the north and Laos and Cambodia in the southwest. Vietnam also shares maritime borders with Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand.
With an area of 331,689 km², it is about the size of Finland or slightly larger than the U.S. state of New Mexico. Vietnam has a population of about 99.7 million people (in 2023), making it number 13 on the list of the most populous countries.
The spoken language is Vietnamese, with English increasingly favored as a second language, and some speak with French.
Hanoi, located in the north, is the capital of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, in the south, is the largest commercial city. Da Nang, in central Vietnam, is the third largest city and an important seaport.
Administrative Regions of Viet Nam
Vietnam is divided into 58 provinces ( in Vietnamese: tỉnh), and there are 5 centrally-controlled municipalities existing at the same level as provinces: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Vietnam’s eight regions shown on the map are: the Northwestern Region (Tây Bắc), the Northeastern Region (Dong Bac), Greater Ha Noi/ Red River Delta (Hà Nội Kinh-Dong Bang Song Hong), the North Central Coast (Bắc Trung Bộ), the South Central Coast (Nam Trung Bộ), the Central Highlands (Tây Nguyên), the Southeastern Region (Đông Nam Bộ), and the Southwestern Region, in the Mekong River Delta (Tây Nam Bộ-Đồng Bằng Sông Cửu Long).
